Fostering the Next Generation
Furukawa Gakuen, a school corporation, was founded in 1904 as a girls' sewing school established by Mr. Shosaku Fujinawa. Despite the passage of many years, the school's founding spirit—"Independence, Sincerity, and Courtesy"—remains at the core of our educational philosophy and has been faithfully passed down. We have dedicated ourselves to educating young people who meet societal expectations. As a private high school serving the local community, we have produced approximately 26,000 graduates to date. The fact that our alumni have contributed to society in various fields is a great source of pride for our school.
In 2014, as part of our 110th-anniversary commemorative projects, we received support from many individuals to completely rebuild our school buildings, creating an educational environment where students can thrive and actively engage. Since then, we have also developed facilities such as Martial Arts Hall, an indoor practice field with artificial turf, and a second artificial turf ground, further enhancing our physical education and sports environment.
To support the many students involved in club activities and independent activities, we completed the Second Gymnasium and the student dormitory as part of our 120th-anniversary commemorative projects in 2024. This has finally allowed us to further strengthen physical education and sports activities, as well as to accommodate an increasing number of students from outside the region. We look forward to students dedicating themselves even more to their studies and sports.
High school students who will lead the next era are expected to acquire high-level academic skills and a resilient spirit that enable them to respond to a society that is becoming increasingly complex and internationalized, understand diverse cultures, and operate cutting-edge technologies.
Under the school vision of "Joetsu High School, meeting regional expectations through advance to colleges, qualifications, and character," we are committed to fostering solid academic abilities aimed at university entrance, promoting career education that contributes to the community and society, and cultivating character based on our founding spirit of "Independence, Sincerity, and Courtesy." Additionally, with the motto "Reflecting on our hometown and engaging with the world," we emphasize international understanding and English education, aiming to develop individuals with a broad perspective who can actively contribute while firmly rooted in the local community.
Joetsu High School is located near the historic Kasugayama Castle ruins, the residence of the regional hero Uesugi Kenshin, and in the temple town of Takada, which exudes the aroma of history and culture. We sincerely hope that many young people will nurture their dreams and dedicate themselves passionately to their studies and club activities in this lush, tranquil environment of Joetsu High School.

Joetsu High School is a traditional private high school founded in 1904. Private schools have a spirit of founding. The spirit of our school, "Independence, Sincerity, Courtesy", has been the foundation of education ever since the founding. Today, with the advancement of science and technology, globalization is progressing, which means it difficult for a country to be alive alone.
Joetsu High School is implementing various activities so that young people in charge of the next era can learn the knowledge and education that society seeks, the ability to think and act to solve problems, and the ability to communicate in cooperation with the world. We are all committed to the spirit of the school founding, such as classes to foster thinking and expression skills, international understanding education and English education, various club activities, community contribution activities, and solid student guidance.
Recently, our education has gained a deep understanding in the community, and we have received support in various ways. The school that is together with the community is the current Joetsu High School.
